This year's back-to-school event and block party will take place on August 2nd from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Pine Island United Methodist Church. Registered students, from kindergarten to 17 years in age, will receive two new school outfits along with a gift card for a new pair of athletic shoes. There will be free food and refreshments, along with activities and displays by contributing area organizations, at the event. A list of contributing organizations will be available soon. Pine Island FISH is an all-volunteer association of neighbors organized to help those living in the Matlacha and Pine Island Communities. From its early beginnings in the 1980s, Pine Island FISH has grown to an organization of more than 40 members providing many valuable services.
Pine Island FISH provides non-emergency transportation, lends mobility equipment to those in need, offers emergency financial assistance, and provides information and a list of local respite care providers for family caregivers. If you need help, call the FISH line at 239-283-4442 to connect with a volunteer who is ready to help .
